You know how in cooking they say to test spaghetti, you've got to throw it against the wall and see if it sticks for it to be al dente? Well the same can be said for auditions. Kind of.
The thing about auditions is that the more you do, the better you get, the better you get, the more you book, and the more you book, the more fun you have! I keep track of my auditions, recalls, holds and bookings and audition outfits for many reasons - 1) so I can get an idea of my progress as an actor (although that's even iffy - sometimes you just look too much like someone's ex wife to be booked), 2) so I can get an idea of audition outfits and what works, and 3) to keep track of where I'm auditioning/who I'm auditioning for/casting houses/how I felt etc. It's been really helpful to me to be able to look back at this document to stay on top of my craft. I post these #auditionlooks on my instagram, @erintancock.
I'm very lucky that I have AMAZING agents who push for me, and I audition a lot. Like 2-9 times a week a lot. And I'm very grateful for that. Which sometimes means running back and forth across the city. Many times. The TTC and I are BFF. And my fitbit tracker has never been happier.
So in the end, it's all about the chances you take, right? And your numbers change, and you keep pushing. Because it's all about the fun in the room. It has to be. The chance to play and do what I love. It's not about the booking or the results or the stats. It's just about being more aware of the process. More aware of the numbers game and how to play it. Throw an audition or two against the wall and see what sticks.
And when I detach myself from the outcome I am magical.
